The merit case is the free monthly photo allotment plus a huge owner base on the U.S. model. It is not our default cellular camera, because the rating is lower than Tactacam and video stops at 720p. It is the right pick when the plan fee is the objection.

Best for: Scouters who send a modest number of photos and do not want a plan on day one.

What holds up

  • Free monthly photo allotment, with paid upgrades only if you need them
  • Dual preactivated SIMs choose a network for you
  • Very large review sample on the U.S. model
  • Photo, video, and time-lapse modes, including time-lapse plus detection
  • Buck Tracker filtering in the app

What does not

  • Video is 720p, behind the other cellular cameras here
  • Owner reviews are mixed on battery life and cameras that stop reporting
  • microSD card is required and sold separately
  • No built-in solar panel. AA cells or a LIT-22 pack, with solar as an add-on
  • The Amazon rating sits below Tactacam and Moultrie

Who the FLEX-M is for

The SPYPOINT FLEX-M is the cellular camera for a person who wants photos on a phone and does not want a plan on the first day. The U.S. model we verified, ASIN B0D1TTDBST, advertises a free monthly photo allotment and paid upgrades if you shoot more. On November 4, 2026 the listing was in stock and showed 3.9 from 2,701 ratings. The sample is huge. The rating is the warning label.

Buy it for light scouting. Do not buy a dozen of them as a security grid and then act surprised when the free tier and the batteries both give up.

What is in the box, and what is not

The listing is the FLEX-M US: one camera, two preactivated SIM cards, an antenna, a strap, and the paperwork. The microSD card is not included. SPYPOINT says to use a Class 10 card from a known brand, from a couple of gigabytes up to 512 GB. A no-name card is the fastest way to get a camera that "will not send." The card is where the photo lives before the radio tries to move it. If the write fails, there is nothing to transmit.

Power is eight AAs or the LIT-22 rechargeable pack. Solar is an accessory, not a panel on the lid. The maker's own tip is blunt: get a decent signal, use a lithium pack or a proper solar kit, and do not use rechargeable AA cells. Rechargeable AAs often sit at a lower voltage. Night flash plus a radio will expose that.

The camera is IP65. That is solid rain resistance and not the same claim as IP66. It is still a real rating, unlike a camera that only says "weather resistant."

Pictures and the network

Stills are 28 MP. Video is 720p with sound. In this lineup, 720p is the compromise. Tactacam, Moultrie, and Bushnell cellular models we checked advertise 1080p. If you judge a camera by video of a buck at dusk, the FLEX-M is behind. If you judge it by "did a deer use this trail this morning," 28 MP stills are enough, and the free tier is aimed at stills.

Trigger speed is listed at 0.4 seconds. Flash and detection are low-glow, claimed around 90 feet. Low-glow means a faint red that deer can notice if the camera is close and the LEDs fire in their face. Hang it off to the side of the trail, not in the middle of it.

Dual SIMs are preactivated and the camera is supposed to pick a network without you choosing a carrier in a store. That is the right design for a property that sits between towers. It does not create signal where there is none. Walk the spot with a phone in airplane mode off, on more than one network if you can, before you buy a cellular camera for that tree. The no-signal note covers the rest of the checklist.

Capture modes include photo, video, time-lapse, and time-lapse plus the motion sensor. Constant Capture is the maker's name for sending and shooting at the same time so a busy minute does not pause the camera. Useful. Also a way to burn the free allotment before the weekend is over. Start on photos, on a slower transmit schedule, and turn the clever modes on after you know the spot is worth the data.

The app side includes maps, weather, and Buck Tracker filtering. Filtering is a sort, not a promise that empty frames never upload.

Why the rating is 3.9

The review themes on the sister FLEX-S, and the volume on this FLEX-M, rhyme. People like the picture and the setup. A large minority report batteries that collapse and cameras that stop reporting until they are power-cycled in the field. That is the failure you must price in. A free plan does not help if you drive out to reboot the camera every week. Read recent reviews for "stops sending" before you buy three.

The first power-on can sit for a long time while firmware arrives. SPYPOINT tells you to wait until the lights go quiet, then format the card with the on-camera button, then send a test photo. Do that at home on a known signal. Doing it for the first time in a marginal hollow is how people decide the camera is broken.

Against the Tactacam

The Reveal X 3.0 costs you a plan and gives you onboard storage, 1080p, a higher rating, and no card to buy. The FLEX-M costs you a card and gives you a free photo allotment and a bigger, messier owner record. We pick Tactacam as the default and FLEX-M as the budget-plan exception. Both picks are in the comparison.

How to live inside the free tier

Transmit on a schedule, not on every trigger, until you know the false-trigger rate. A windy ridge can spend a month of photos in an afternoon. Point the camera at a trail, clear the brush in the detection cone, and drop sensitivity one notch below maximum. Request video only when a still tells you the clip is worth it. That is the whole economic model of this camera. Ignore it and the "free" plan becomes a paid plan, which is fine if you chose it, and annoying if you did not.

Questions we hear on this

Is the FLEX-M really free to run?

The listing includes a free monthly photo allotment and says paid plans exist if you need more. Video requests and heavy use leave that free tier quickly. It is not free if you treat it like a security camera.

Do I need a memory card?

Yes. SPYPOINT says to use a Class 10 microSD card from a known brand, up to 512 GB. The card is not in this ASIN.

Why is the Amazon rating lower than Tactacam?

Owners praise the picture and the setup, and a large share complain about batteries and cameras that stop sending. Read that split before you buy a multi-camera grid of them.
